'The Adventure of the Norwood Builder' was Arthur Conan Doyle's thirtieth published Sherlock Holmes story. The American edition, published in Collier's Magazine (with illustrations by F. D. Steele) on 30 October 1903, preceded this British issue in The Strand Magazine by a few days. The story was the second of 13 collected in 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes' published by George Newnes, with illustrations by Sidney Paget, in 1905. (Green and Gibson A29).
