First UK edition, first printing. Publisher's original orange cloth with black titles to the spine. Lacking the rare dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with some bumping to the spine tips and corners, the cloth a little marked and faded. The contents, with just the odd isolated foxing spot to the prelims, a are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Two pages towards the rear of the text block are creased to the fore-edge margin. Four pages of publisher's adverts to the rear as called for.
A non Nero Wolfe mystery. First published in America by Farrar and Rinehart in July 1939, this first UK edition is considerably less common. (Hubin; Curran, John: The Hooded Gunman).
