GOOD CHEER: The Romance of Food and Feasting.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to the upper board and spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and 20 black and white plates. A very good copy, the binding firm and bright with a little bumping to extremities and slight fading to the spine. The contents with a small tear to the margin of one plate, tanning to endpapers and a little occasional spotting to few page edges are otherwise in good order, clean throughout and free from any previous owners' inscriptions or stamps.

A wide-ranging social and cultural history of food and feasting around the world from ancient times to the early twentieth century. Rich in both fact and anecdote and covering everything from Roman banquets to Tudor table manners. Scarce in such good condition.
