First edition, first printing. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with orange titles to the spine and upper board, in dustwrapper. Extensively illustrated in black and white and colour, with photographs and designs from private archives and museums. A fine copy, the binding square and firm the contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the fine original dustwrapper, which is free from fading, loss or tears.

German graphic designer Otl Aicher was renowned for his complex visual systems and typography, with his best known works including the identity for the 1972 Munich Olympics, the creation of his typeface Rotis and corporate identities for Lufthansa, FSB and ERCO. The latter for which he developed an internationally comprehensive visual language which is now composed of over 900 pictograms. In 1953 he co-founded the experimental design school Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (Ulm School of Design) with Max Bill and Inge Aicher-Scholl.
