First American edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original black cloth, with gilt titles to the spine, in pictorial dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, with bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners. The contents are clean throughout and free from inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the rubbed, creased and nicked dustwrapper, that has numerous short tears and small areas of loss. Not price-clipped ($2.75 to the front flap).

Inscribed by Nelson Bond in blank ink on the front endpaper 'For / Helen Sullivan / with the best wishes / of the author / Nelson Bond'. A collection of thirteen short stories including Mr Mergenthwirker's Lobblies which first appeared in Scribner's Magazine in 1937 and was later adapted for screen in 1949. Nelson Bond was an early pioneer of science fiction and fantasy and was the recipient of the Nebula Author Emeritus award in 1998 for life time achievement.
