Fifteenth impression of the first edition. Signed by the author. Paperback. Publisher's original illustrated card covers, with titles in dark yellow, white and black to the front cover and spine. With the 1997 Nestlé Smarties Book Prize label to the front cover. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm, with some fading to the lightly creased spine, extreme top edge and rear spine fold, and just a touch of rubbing to the extremities. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Text block edges a little toned.
Inscribed by the author J. K. Rowling in blue ink on the front endpaper "To Kay / How I love signing / to adults! / J. K. Rowling". An early printing of the paperback issue of the first book in the Harry Potter series. The first edition, comprising 500 hardcover copies and 5150 paperback copies, was published on 30 June 1997 by Bloomsbury in London. The novel won a gold medal in the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize within just six months of publication and ultimately went on to win almost all other major British awards voted by children, and also two publishing industry awards (the British Book Awards Children's Book of the Year and the Booksellers' Association Author the Year).
