FRANKENSTEIN OR THE MODERN PROMETHEUS

First edition with these illustrations, first printing. Publisher's original cloth with wraparound illustration after a design by Harry Brockway, with silver titles to the spine, in the original black card slipcase. Illustrated with a frontispiece and nine further full page drawings in black and white by Harry Brockway. Printed on Caxton Wove paper. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Housed in the structurally sound slipcase, which is scuffed tiny surface loss to the head of the backstrip.

The first edition was published in three volumes, without illustrations in 1818, with a straightforward reprint in two volumes following in 1823. A third edition, substantially revised and with a new introduction by the author was first issued in 1831. The text of this newly illustrated edition follows that of the 1831 printing, with minor emendations. Miranda Seymour's introduction is printed here for the first time.
