Complete in 17 volumes. Contemporary half red morocco by Birdsall (for Charles Scribners Sons), the upper and lower boards ruled in gilt, five raised bands, gilt decorated compartments and titles in gilt to the spines. 18 x 11cm. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Tissue guarded frontispiece and full page illustrations in black and white throughout each volume. Each volume with the engraved bookplate of Margaret Carnegie to the front pastedown. A very handsome set, the bindings square and firm with just a little rubbing to the extremities and some subtle, uniform fading to the spines. The contents are clean and bright throughout.

From the library of Margert Carnegie (1897-1990), the only child of industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and heiress to the Carnegie fortune. A very attractive set of Dickens works, retaining nearly all of the illustrations as found in the first editions.
