Second printing of the 2008 first edition with these illustrations. Publisher's original black cloth with decoration, illustration and titles in red and silver. With a colour frontispiece and eight further full page illustrations in black and white by Abigail Rorer. Printed on Cordier Wove paper. Housed in the original black card slipcase. A superb fine copy, the binding square and firm, the content spotlessly clean throughout.

The first edition was printed without illustrations by Constable and Company in 1897. This newly illustrated edition follows the text of the first edition, with minor emendations. A classic of gothic fiction.
