Signed and dated '6 June 06' by David Hockney in black ink on the title page. Loosely inserted is a letter from the Modern and Contemporary Art Council, Los Angeles, dated June 6, 2006 thanking the recipient for attending the fundraising 'Picture Yourself with David Hockney' event, preview of the 'Portraits' show and dinner with David Hockney (where this volume was inscribed). 'David Hockney Portraits' was exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (26 February-14 May 2006), Los Angeles County Museum of Art (11 June-4 September 2006) and the National Portrait Gallery, London (12 October 2006-21 January 2007). This book, produced in close collaboration with the artist, to accompany the exhibition, examines Hockney's portraits in all media - painting, drawing, photocollage and prints. It features over 250 works spanning fifty years, and essays by Sarah Howgate (Contemporary Curator at the National Portrait Gallery), Barbara Stern Shapiro (Curator for Special Projects at the Museum of Fine Arts), Mark Glazebrook, Marco Livingstone and award-winning author Edmund White, the volume also includes notes on the sitters and an illustrated chronology.
