The first catalogue raisonné ever published of the works of Samuel Palmer. Over 750 of Palmer's paintings, drawings, etchings and book illustrations are listed in detail, discussing their artistic and literary sources and techniques. Every catalogued work is, whenever possible, illustrated for purposes of identification, next to the catalogue entry. There is also a checklist of his writings. Raymond Lister compiled the catalogue during an eleven-year senior research fellowship at Wolfson College, Cambridge, a period which also saw the completion of a new biography of Palmer, the catalogue Samuel Palmer and the 'Ancients', illustrated books on the paintings of Samuel Palmer and of William Blake, and a critical biography of Palmer's friend George Richmond.
