First printing of the second edition (the first revised edition). Three volumes. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spines, in dustwrappers. Top edges red. Fold out map to the rear of each volume. A very good set, the bindings firm with a little rubbing at the extremities, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents, with some light spotting to the endpapers and closed text block edge. 'The Fellowship of the Ring' has a previous owner's inscription on the half title and a little wrinkling to the front free endpaper; 'The Two Towers' has some staining to the closed text-block edge and some spotting to the last pages; 'The Return of the King' has a previous owner's inscription on the front free endpaper. The maps in volumes II and III have some slight spotting, that of volume II with a very short closed tear to the margin. Complete with the original and correct lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrappers, that are a little toned to the edges of the rear panel and spine. 'The Return of the King' has been price-clipped, 'The Fellowship of the Ring' and 'The Two Towers' are correctly priced 25s net to the lower front flap.
