Illustrated with 66 plates, seven of which are in colour, and 12 in photogravure. Tissue guards. A very good copy, the binding firm with some bumping to the corners and tips of the slightly rolled and faded spine. The contents, with some spotting to the text pages, mostly confined to the margins, are otherwise clean and without inscriptions or stamps.

Impressions of Indian cities; written over the course of five annual wanderings through India, with the intention to indicate the widely different local colour that distinguishes one Indian city from another. With a chapter on the later life of Nana Sahib (Nana Saheb Peshwa II), an Indian aristocrat and fighter who led the Siege of Cawnpore [Kanpur] during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against the East India Company.
