First edition, first printing. Inscribed from the author to his publisher. Publisher's original quarter blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, over light blue paper covered boards with titles in black to the upper board. Without the dustwrapper. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping and some rubbing at the extremities. The boards a little spotted. The contents, with a previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown and some spotting to the endpapers are otherwise clean throughout.

Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the front endpaper "For Victor Gollancz / in admiration + gratitude / from Denys Blakelock / Feburary 16th / 1956".
