THE BOOK OF MARTIN HARVEY

First edition, first printing. Signed by John Martin Harvey. Original beige cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographic and illustration plates and a tissue-guarded colour frontispiece. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the spine and board edges darkened. The contents, with offsetting to the endpapers and to the page facing the half title from a loosely laid in Martin Harvey-related newspaper clipping, and with a previous owner's inscription to the front pastedown, are otherwise clean throughout.

Signed and dated by John Martin Harvey (1863-1944) in black ink on the front free endpaper. Martin Harvey was an actor, stage manager and director who started his career in Henry Irving's Lyceum Theatre company in the late 1800s. He became a celebrated name in theatre and was knighted in 1921.
