A HAND BOOK OF FEVERS

First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Original navy cloth with gilt titles to the spine and upper board. Illustrated with four fold-out charts. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the extremities rubbed and the corners lightly bumped. The contents, with offsetting to the endpapers and some spotting to the text block edges, prelims, and occasionally to the foldouts and margins, are otherwise clean. The inner rear hinge is cracked but holding.

Inscribed twice by the author in blue ink on the front free endpaper "To Miss Mary Leeke / in memory of many arduous hours / J. Campbell McClure / July 20th 1914" and again signed with initials in 1918. A physician to the French Hospital and Margaret Street Hospital for Consumption (London) and author of many publications, this handbook on infectious fevers, a favourite and invaluable text for medical students of the period is considered Campbell's most valuable contribution to medical literature.
