First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Publisher's original light blue cloth with dark blue titles to the upper board and spine, in the Roger Condon illustrated dustwrapper. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the poor original dustwrapper that is torn from the top to bottom of the front panel, split the length of the front flap fold and chipped at the spine tips. Not price-clipped ($2.50 to the front flap). Scarce.

Inscribed by the author in blue ink on the front free endpaper "With kindest wishes / To Merlin T. R. Maynard / An understanding doctor / with a big heart / Harry Proctor / author".
