BULLDOGS AND BULLDOG MEN.

First edition. Publisher's original stiff card wrappers with colour pictorial onlay depicting a bulldog to the upper cover and titles in red and brown to the upper cover and spine. Illustrated advertisements to the endpapers and 12pp. of related advertisements at the rear. Illustrated profusely throughout with black and white photographs. A very good copy, the binding secure with chipping and loss to the spine. The somewhat slack contents with a neat contemporary Australian bookseller's stamp to the front free endpaper and the occasional minor mark to page margins are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout.

A comprehensive and extensively illustrated Edwardian guide to the breeding, raising, care, and exhibition of bulldogs. The second half of the work provides detailed profiles of around 100 individual dog and their owners, as well as sections on medical treatments, different bulldog breeds, the history and present activities of English, American, Australian and French bulldog clubs, and a directory of bulldog breeders. A scarce title by Henry St. John Cooper (1869-1926), the prolific English novelist of school and adventure fiction and authority on the bulldog.
