Second printing of the first UK edition. Signed by the author and the illustrator. Original black boards with silver titles to the spine, in the Dave McKean illustrated dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout in black and white by David McKean. A near fine copy, the binding square and tight. There is a bookplate to the front pastedown, the contents are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the near fine dustwrapper that is very lightly creased at the extremities. Not price-clipped (£14.99 on the front flap).

Inscribed by Neil Gaiman in brown ink on the title page "Jared [on a doodle of a gravestone] / Neil Gaiman [underlined]", and by Dave McKean in black ink, also on the title page "For Jared - / Dave McKean". The recipient is an editor, anthologist and publisher of genre fiction. Winner of the Carnegie Medal, The Newbury Medal, The Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Locus Award for Best Young Adult Novel. Published simultaneously in the UK and US. A British 'children's edition' with illustrations by Chris Riddell was also issued.
