First edition, first printing. Original black boards with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding firm with a very slight lean to the spine, the boards fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper that has a few tiny closed tears at the edges and a tiny holu to the front panel near the spine fold. Not price-clipped (12/6 on the front flap).

The author's first book, written when she was fourteen years old and published two years later. A curious weird-fiction fantasy novel about a woman whose life suddenly collides with strange 'fairies' from another planet. Once obscure, it gained new readers in 2002 when it was chosen by the science fiction writer China Mieville as one of the top ten best weird fiction books.
