First edition, first printing with these illustrations. Original brown cloth with gilt titles and illustrations to the spine and upper board. Illustrated with 30 tipped in colour plates by Arthur Rackham with tissue guards, illustrated endpapers, and a number of small black and white vignettes throughout. A very good copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth lightly browned to the spine and board edges, the gilt a little faded in a few areas. The plates and tissue guards are all present and in fine condition. The contents, with a 1911 gift inscription to the front free endpaper, a few spots to the prelims and light toning to the margins, are otherwise clean throughout.
The second of two volumes in the beautifully illustrated Arthur Rackham edition of Richard Wagner's The Ring of Nibelung, a cycle of four operas based on Germanic and Norse mythology.
