VERDUN AND THE BATTLES FOR ITS POSSESSION.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original tan cloth with titles in brown to the upper board and spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated advertisement endpapers. Profusely illustrated throughout with numerous maps and black and white photographs. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a vertical crease to the lower board. The contents with a contemporary owner's inscription (dated 1921) in pencil to the title page, pencil annotations stating causality numbers to one of the maps, and a tear with slight loss to the blank corner of one page (with a little paper adhesion to the facing page) are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. Complete with the very good or thereabouts dustwrapper which has some loss to the head of the spine/rear panel, a 4cm tear to the head of the front panel, and a few small nicks and creases to the extremities. Not price-clipped (3/- net to the front panel).

The first edition of this extensively-illustrated Michelin guide to the battlefield of Verdun, including a history of all the key events in the battles for its possession, published just after the close of the First World War.
