SMALL COLLECTION OF EARLY PUBLICATIONS RELATING TO THE ORGANIC FOOD MOVEMENT

Three booklets in publisher's original stapled wrappers, 28pp., 42pp., 84pp., with five related pamphlets. Condition is very good, the bindings firm with a little rusting to the staples and the odd minor crease to the corners. The contents with the occasional spot of foxing and toning and the odd ink annotation are otherwise in very good order.

An uncommon collection of early publications relating to the Soil Association and the Henry Doubleday Research Association, the two organisations central to the establishment and development of the organic food movement in Britain. The titles here include an 'Introduction to the Soil Association' (1959), laying out the organisation's ideas and aims, and 'The Wholefood Finder' (1968), which provides a comprehensive guide to restaurants, retailers, hotels, and farmers who offer organic produce, in addition to several pamphlets and leaflets regarding organic farming, gardening, the consumption of organic foods, and lists of publications relating to such subjects. Not often seen in commerce and scant in institutional holdings.
