MARCO'S ANIMAL ALPHABET

Limited edition. Folio. Publisher's original blue cloth-backed patterned-paper boards with titles in gilt to the spine. Page edges untrimmed. Illustrated with 27 colour linocuts by Enid Marx (one per page with doggerel verse by the artist beneath). Publisher's prospectus for the work loosely laid in. A fine copy, the binding square and firm; the contents immaculate throughout. An excellent example.

Limited to 160 copies of which this is number three. A vibrant animal alphabet by the designer Enid Marx, completed in 1979 but not published until the present edition. Embellished with a later colour scheme by Peter Allen, the result is aptly described by Graham Moss in the introduction: "The vigour of these cuts and the joy in bold colour and fearless design combine to make this posthumous collaboration a happy and successful one." One of 145 regular copies; there were also 15 special copies with an extra set of the linocuts.
