WHY CONFORM? A Liberal Studies Book.

First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by the author to Jon Wynne-Tyson. Publisher's original pictorial wrappers depicting a "young hippy at a 'love-in' held in the grounds of Woburn Abbey, Bucks." Two signed notes from the author to the recipient loosely laid in. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a touch of fading and toning to the spine and minor shelf wear to the extremities. The contents are clean and bright throughout.

Signed and inscribed by Martin Goff in black ink to the half title page "For Jon Wynne-Tyson / Literary & other / greetings / from / Martyn Goff / Jan '70". A consideration of the culture and politics of non-conformity in the late 1960s by the author, bookseller and key figure in the organisation of the Booker Prize, Martyn Goff (1923-2015). "Some people want to opt out of society altogether, as traditional values are increasingly called into questions. Yet most of us need standards to guide us through the maze of modern life. In this book personal values, family ties, education, money, sex, religion, possessions, and art are subjected to frank scrutiny, to see which 'rules' can help us and which ones are only fit for breaking." (from the rear cover). The present copy is inscribed by Goff to the publisher and activist for animal rights, vegetarianism and pacifism, Jon Wynne-Tyson (1924-2020).
