THE NEW INDUSTRIAL STATE

First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author. Original pale brown cloth with gilt and black lettering to the spine; author's initials in black to the front panel, in dustwrapper. A better than very good copy, the binding square and tight, the contents bright and clean without inscriptions or stamps. There is a small patch of abrasion to the outer, lower edge of the final page gathering. Complete with the dustwrapper, which is moderately worn and nicked to upper and lower spine tips. There is a 3 cm tear and some mild crumpling and creasing to the outer upper edge of the front panel, and a vertical crease along the centre of the lightly faded spine panel. Not price-clipped ($6.95 to the upper edge of the front flap).

Inscribed and dated in blue ink to the top of the front free endpaper, "For the Jarnokoskys [?] with / all good wishes / J K G /1967". 'The New Industrial Estate' followed closely upon Galbraith's series of BBC Reith Lectures of the same title, delivered and broadcast in 1966. The volume revisits and expands the arguments of the 'The Affluent Society' (1958).
