First edition, first printing. Signed and inscribed by the author. Original illustrated card wrappers. Illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. Signed and inscribed by the author in blue ink to the half title page: "To: Sir Fergus Montgomery, MP, / Chairman of the / library subcommittee - / with the author's / compliments. / David Menhennet / 10 June 1991". An exploration of the past and present of the House of Commons Library by its long-time librarian (1976-1991), Dr David Menhennet. The recipient, Sir Fergus Montgomery (1927-2013), was a Conservative MP for more than thirty years and a staunch ally of Margaret Thatcher. He served as Thatcher's Parliamentary Private Secretary, first during her tenure as Secretary of State for Education (1973-74), and then as Leader of the Opposition (1975-76), and was notably one of those who had originally pressed her to stand against Edward Heath for the leadership. A nice association copy. Provenance: From the collection of Sir Fergus Montgomery.
