Laid in is a typed postcard from Tony Harrison to book designer and "Staple New Writing" literary magazine founder Bill Berrett, signed in black ink and postmarked Jan 1987 - "I've always thought the best thing I could do for 'poetry' is go on struggling to write it and that's why I prefer to concentrate on that exclusively rather than 'judge competitions' or do 'workshops'".
