First UK edition, first printing. Publisher's original blue cloth with titles in blind to the upper board and in gilt to the spine. Illustrated with six maps, five of which are folding, and two facsimile plates of documents. An excellent, near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a little bumping and rubbing to the spine tips and corners, the cloth and gilt, bright and fresh. The text block is toned to the edges. The contents, with a small paper retailer's label to the bottom right corner of the front pastedown, are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Without the uncommon dustwrapper.
