First edition in book form, first printing. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine and a gilt monogram to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Top edge navy. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm with slight bumping at the spine tips, the cloth with a small white mark to the top of the front panel is otherwise bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very good rubbed and nicked, price-clipped dustwrapper that has a thin strip of staining to the bottom edge of the front panel, from a long since removed piece of tape on the underside.

Both the book and dustwrapper are the correct first issue: 'first printing' stated on the copyright page; the dustwrapper with '1/66' code on the bottom corner of the front flap and 'Publishers of the American College Dictionary and the Modern Library' on the rear flap. After a four-part serialisation the in the New Yorker, Capote's pioneering work which he described as "a non-fiction novel" was published in book form in 1966 by Random House. The bestseller has been the subject of three films, receiving multiple Academy Awards and nominations between them.
