First edition, first printing of Frankl's seminal work in psychotherapy. Publisher's original pictorial paper covers. A better than very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little rubbing and creasing to the extremities and a couple of tiny nicks to the spine corners, without loss. The contents, toned to the poor quality paper-stock, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. An excellent example, in entirely original condition.

One of the earliest and most influential survivor accounts of the Nazi concentration camps. Published in Vienna in 1946, scarcely a year after the end of the Second World War, Frankl's memoir is exceptional in combining firsthand testimony with the observations of a trained psychiatrist. Written after his liberation from the camps, the work laid the foundations for his theory of logotherapy and was later revised and expanded as 'Man's Search for Meaning', which has become one of the most widely read books of the twentieth century. This first edition is considerably scarcer than the later English-language issues that established Frankl's international reputation and represents a landmark in both Holocaust literature and the history of modern psychology.
