First UK edition, first printing. The publisher's retained copy. Original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. With nine illustrations on 8 pages, and a folding map to the rear. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a bump at the head of the spine. The contents with spotting to the title page and text block edge, and with the publisher's "Archive Copy" and "file copy" stamp to the prelims are otherwise clean throughout. Complete with the rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper which is toned and spotted to the spine, with the publisher's "File Copy" stamp to the upper panel and with several very small chips to the extremities. A scarce title.
