First edition, first printing. Publisher's original green cloth with light yellow titles and illustration to the upper board and spine, in the J. Abbey illustrated dustwrapper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and eight full page line drawings by J. Abbey. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with some rubbing and bumping to the spine tips and some toning of the cloth at the extreme board edges. The contents, with some spotting to the edges of the endpapers, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions. There is a small publication date stamp "7 44" to the rear endpaper. Complete with the correct first printing, rubbed and nicked dustwrapper that has a few short closed tears with associated creasing to the edges, and some tiny chips to the spine tips. Not price-clipped (5s net to the lower front flap). Scarce in dustwrapper.
