First edition, first printing. Signed by the author. Publisher's original burgundy cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth bright and fresh, with a little rubbing to the spine tips. The contents, with a bookplate to the front free endpaper and slight toning to the top edge of the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lighyly rubbed and creased dustwrapper, that is faded to the spine. Clipped and repriced on a publisher's label to the lower front flap (£6.95 net).
Inscribed by Christopher Priest in blue ink on the title page 'To Jared ***** / Christopher Priest'. The recipient is an editor and publisher of genre fiction. The author's sixth book, a science fiction novel in which a man begins writing fantasy fiction after a string of bad luck, only to find his life merging with that of his own characters. Set in Priest's 'Dream Archipelago', which features in a number of his short stories and two later novels, and also forms part of the series of the same name. Winner of the 1982 Ditmar Award in the 'International Fiction' category.
