First edition, first printing, first state (with 11 titles listed on the half title) in the second state binding. Publisher's original smooth plum cloth with gilt titles over five lines to the upper board, and to the spine. Without the scarce dustwrapper. With a black and white photographic frontispiece, 16 further photographic plates, a folding map and other illustrations within the text. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with some bumping to the tips of the faded spine, the cloth otherwise clean and bright. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. An attractive example.
An entertaining volume of autobiography covering the years from Churchill's birth in 1872 to around 1902. (Cohen A91.1.b; Woods A37).
