First edition, first printing. Two volumes. Original red cloth with gilt titles to the spines and upper boards. Deckled edges. Photogravure portrait frontispieces, 13 plates and three facsimiles, of which one is folding and one is double-page. A very good set, the bindings square and firm, the edges a little rubbed and bumped, the spines lightly faded and mottled, Volume II with faint marks to the upper and lower boards. There is some foxing to the closed text-block edges, early and late pages and lightly to the margins, with light dust marks to the bottom corners of the text block edges. There is a small, faint "31" to the verso of the last page of the index of Volume II, the contents are otherwise clean throughout.
