GOOD-BYE TO ALL THAT

First edition, first printing [second state]. Original salmon coloured cloth, with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A lovely very near fine copy, the cloth clean, fresh and without fading, the spine tips lightly bumped. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and price-clipped dustwrapper which has a short closed tear at the top edge of the upper panel and some darkening to the spine and panel edges.

An attractive example of the corrected state of Graves' autobiography, a large part of which is taken up by his experience of the First World War, serving as a lieutenant, then captain in the Royal Welch Fusiliers with Siegfried Sassoon. The long poem by Siegfried Sassoon that appeared on pages 341-3 of the uncorrected state is replaced with blanks and asterisks after Sassoon's threat of legal action.
