Complete with the original dustwrapper which is very lightly rubbed and nicked, slightly toned to the spine and with a pencilled mark to the front panel and a "32" to the rear panel. Issued simultaneously in hardcover and paperback. An English translation of Christa Winsloe's play Gestern und Heute which was turned into the film Mädchen in Uniform in 1931 which became a cult hit. The play was influenced by Winsloe's own experiences as a young lesbian at Kaiserin-Augusta-Stift, an extremely strict boarding school for aristocratic girls. After the play and film's success Winsloe broke away from the expectations of her class and family and worked as a sculptor of animals. She had relationships with the American journalist Dorothy Thompson and the Swiss author Simone Gentet. Winsloe and Gentet were killed in France in 1944 after being mistaken for Nazi spies.
