SCENES IN ENGLAND For the Amusement and Instruction of Little Tarry-At-Home Travellers.

Second edition. Publisher's original quarter roan over printed paper-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece and 84 charming engravings across 28 plates (complete). A very good copy, the binding tight and square with rubbing to the boards, wear to the extremities, and loss to the head of the spine. The contents with creasing to the front free endpaper, some spotting to plate margins, one pair of plates slightly loose, and a small area of abrasion to two engravings, are otherwise in good order.

A topographical guide for children which traverses the country recounting local history and customs - from wrecking ships off the Cornish coast to taking the waters at Bath - and offering advice on what sites to visit. A nice example of early nineteenth-century didactic children's literature, wonderfully illustrated.
