THE HIGHER - THE FUEHRER. A Pillory of Parody.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original paper covered boards with titles in black, ruled in red to the upper board. 4to. Printed on hand made Batchelors paper by Arthur's Press Ltd. of Woodchester, Gloucester. A lovely very near fine copy, the binding ever so slightly bowed is otherwise square and tight with only a few superficial marks to the delicate paper covers. The contents are entirely complete and without loose or torn pages. Other than some offsetting to the page opposite the illustrations the contents are clean and bright throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Scarce in this condition.

The entire printing was limited to only 100 copies of which this is numbered 4. Compiled in the spirit and celebration of the English sense of humour amongst the blackouts, limited wireless programs, curtailed transport services and worries of war. Both the author and illustrator at the time of publication were working in the publicity department of MGM's London office. They take poems "which everyone knows - or if they don't, should know" - and rewrite and illustrate them "for more modern requirements". The Imperial War Museum in London holds the private papers of the illustrator, Squadron Leader E. G. W. Wood.
