PEKING PICNIC; together with THE GINGER GRIFFIN

Two volumes. Fifth impression of the September 1932 first UK edition of "Peking Picnic"; First UK edition, first printing (1934) of "The Ginger Griffin". Peking Picnic is in the publisher's original green cloth with red lettering to the spine, in dustwrapper. A very good copy, the cloth and lettering bright and clean, the binding tight and square. There's some pushing to the lower spine, one or two barely visible spots to the fore-edge of the page block. Lower edge deckled. Neat contemporary owner inscription in pencil to front free endapaper. In the clean and bright dustwrapper, slightly faded to the spine, with a one and a half inch triangle of loss to the lower edge of the rear panel. Not price-clipped and correctly priced (7s. 6d. NET) to the front flap. The Ginger Griffin is in the publisher's original orange cloth with white lettering to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding tight and square. The cloth remains clean and bright, the lettering to the spine is lightly rubbed but sharp and clear. The orange topstain remains unfaded, the text block clean. Lower edge deckled. In the unusually clean and bright dustwrapper. There's some rubbing and a few tiny tears to the top of the spine. The red lettering to the spine is moderately faded, but still decipherable. Not price-clipped and correctly priced (7s. 6d. NET) to the front flap. A lovely copy.

Lovely copies of the first and second novels by Ann Bridge (pseudonym of Mary Dolling Sanders, later Mary Anne O'Malley). Both volumes are set in Peking amidst the British Foreign Office community based there, a world the author knew from her time living there with her diplomat husband. "Peking Picnic" was a winner of the Atlantic Monthly Prize.
