LUDUS COVENTRIÆ. A Collection of Mysteries, Formerly Represented at Coventry on the Feast of Corpus Christi.

First edition. Handsomely bound by J. [John] Leighton in contemporary half brown morocco over marbled boards, ruled in gilt. The spine with five raised bands and titles in gilt. Top edge gilt. Marbled endpapers. Lithographic frontispiece reproducing in facsimile an original manuscript page of one of the Coventry Mystery Plays bound in opposite p.178. Loosely laid in are two ink manuscript letters dated 1884, one from Thomas Cooke-Trench of Nass in Ireland, concerning the historical performance of mystery plays in Ireland and other European countries (8 sides in total). A better than very good copy, the binding square and tight with a little rubbing to the joints and corners. The contents with an engraved armorial bookplate to the front pastedown, a previous owner's pencil inscription to the front endpaper and some light scattered foxing to the preliminary pages are otherwise in very good order and clean throughout. A splendid copy.
