Second edition [first Constable edition]. Signed by the author. Original red paper-covered boards with titles in black to the spine and a small illustration in black to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Beautifully illustrated throughout in colour and black and white by the author. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the spine tips slightly rubbed. There is light offsetting to the endpapers, the contents are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owners' stamps or inscriptions. Complete with the lightly rubbed, nicked and creased dustwrapper which is lightly toned to the spine. Not price-clipped (10s 6d to the lower front flap).

Signed by Edward Ardizzone in black ink on the front free endpaper. A wonderful picture book about a boy who joins the circus and saves the day when a fire breaks out, written and illustrated by the Kate Greenaway Medal-winning artist Edward Ardizzone. First published in 1948 by Porpoise Books.
