First edition, first printing. Publisher's original red cloth with gilt titles to the spine, lacking the scarce dustwrapper. Illustrated with line drawings by Dorothy Wheeler throughout the text. A good copy, the binding firm and the spine a little rolled. The gilt is somewhat dulled and the cloth dampstained to the lower part of both boards. The contents, with some bleed from the cloth to the bottom edge of the endpapers, a light brown moisture mark to the rear pastedown, and the occasional small foxing spot to the toned closed text block edge, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.

The second book in the Magic Faraway Tree series, following The Enchanted Wood (1941). The basis for the 2026 Ben Gregor directed film starring Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nonso Anozie, Nicola Coughlan, Jessica Gunning, Jennifer Saunders, and Rebecca Ferguson.
