First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Publisher's original illustrated boards, with titles in white to the upper board and spine. Illustrated with line drawings by Pauline Baynes throughout. A very good copy, the binding firm, with some rubbing to the corners and edges of the rolled and faded spine.. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps.

The fragile nature of the binding on the first edition means that most copies suffer from heavy wear and scuffing. In later printings the binding colour was changed to incorporate a white spine and panel edges with a heavier lamination to prevent the wear issues of the first. (Hammond & Anderson A9a).
