Deluxe numbered, limited issue of the edition originally published by the Folio Society in 1971. Bound in full maroon Wassa goatskin, blocked front and rear with a design by Jeff Clements, lettered in gilt to the spine. Illustrated throughout with drawings by the Polish artist Feliks Topolsi. Iridescent lime green endpapers. Printed on Edinburgh Cream Wove paper. Bound-in grey ribbon bookmark. Upper edges gilt. With an additional booklet (containing an extract from John Bayley's 1966 book, 'Tolstoy and the Novel') in lime green card wraps sewn with black thread, with white title label lettered in black to the front cover. All housed in a black cloth-covered clamshell box lined in the same shade of green as endpapers and booklet, and lettered in gilt to the spine. A fine copy, presenting as unread, the binding square and firm, the contents bright and clean throughout.

Limited edition of 1750 hand-numbered copies, bound by Real Lachenmaier, Germany, of which this is no. 755. The text used is the 1957 Penguin translation by Rosemary Edmonds, who also provides the introduction.
