Full early 19th century brown calf, decorated in blind and ruled in gilt to the upper and lower boards, five raised bands, ruled in gilt and with titles in gilt on a black morocco label to the spine. Marbled endpapers. With two small black and white portraits of Marcus Porcius Cato and Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus. Top edge dark brown. A very good copy, the binding square and firm although somewhat rubbed and scuffed to the spine and board edges. The contents, spotted to the endpapers and prelims, with some offsetting to the neighbouring pages of the internal illustrations, have a few further foxing spots and light marks throughout. Small tear with loss to the blank margin of page 1, and some corner creases between pages 77 and 95.
