TYPED LETTER SIGNED FROM ROALD DAHL TO HIS PUBLISHER RAYNER UNWIN. Giving the Reason for Leaving His American Publisher

A single page typed letter, written by Roald Dahl on Gipsy House, Great Missenden letterhead, to the head of George Allen and Unwin publishers Rayner Unwin. With interesting content. Dahl writes in thanks for "the good news from the Inspector of Foreign Dividends" and for Raynor's "gentlemanly behaviour over this problem" comparing it to an exactly similar situation with Bob Bernstein of Random House [publisher] who refused to release the cash unless Dahl signed another four-book contract. "I whistled off some short children's books and now I have left Knopf and Random House for good. I have gone to Roger Straus" Signed "Roald" in black ink. The letter is in very good condition, with three horizontal folds.

An excellent letter both in respect of content and association. Provenance: Rayner Unwin; thence by descent to Merlin Unwin.
