Description:

First edition, first printing. Two volumes. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in the John Aldridge illustrated dustwrappers. I, Claudius is a near fine example, the binding square and firm, the contents with a bookplate and small ink inscription to the front pastedown (mostly hidden by the dustwrapper flap) are otherwise clean throughout. The dustwrapper is a little rubbed and nicked at the extremities with light toning of the spine. Not price-clipped (8/- net to the front flap). Claudius The God is also a near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents lightly spotted to the text block edge and with the bookplate of The Marquess of Crewe to the front pastedown are otherwise clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. The dustwrapper is a little rubbed and nicked at the extremities with slight toning of the spine but remains without loss. Not price-clipped (10/6 net to the front flap). An excellent uniform set, without the heavy loss and chipping often encountered, of Graves' pioneering masterpiece(s) of historical fiction.
