The Broadway play, based on the Sally Bowles stories of Christopher Isherwood opened at the Empire Theatre in November 1951, winning Tony awards for actresses Julie Harris (as the insouciant Sally Bowles) and Marian Winters (Natalia Landauer). The author John Van Druten, won the 1952 New York Drama Critics' Circle award for Best American Play. The first UK performance was at the New Theatre, London on March 12th, 1954 and later adapted on both sides of the Atlantic into the musical "Cabaret".

Complete with the rare original dustwrapper which has several nicks, closed tears and a small chip at the head of the spine. As with all of the Gollancz publisher's retained copies there is a small pencil annotation to the upper panel. Scarce in this form.

A fantasy novel, issued as a paperback original under the publisher's Mundanus novels imprint along with notable titles such as Francis Iles' Malice Aforethought. A small number of each were issued in hardcover for use in British circulating libraries. This copy, being one of the [two] publisher's retained archive copies has escaped the harsh treatment the library system would have inflicted.
